DOES IT HAVE TO BE BLESSED?
JUNE 18, 2014
WHAT IS THE FIRST THOUGHT that comes to mind when you purchase a statue, rosary or a medal of your favorite saint? Do you have an urgency to get it blessed? Some people may even avoid kneeling by the statue, praying with the rosary or wearing the medal until it has been blessed by a priest.
The Great Apostasy that we are living through today has left us with no priests. Laymen in a priest's cassock, acting like priests, sometimes believing they are priests! With this scenario how are we to get our religious items blessed? Is it necessary?
In his book The Medal Or Cross of St. Benedict: Its Origin, Meaning, and Privileges (By Dom Guéranger who also wrote The Liturgical Year) we are told of the enormous value in having a Saint Benedict Medal blessed. However, we also read these interesting words: . . . "we must not forget that many favors were obtained by it's means, even before it had been made the object of such special privileges, as we have seen bestowed on it by the Holy See. The power of the medal is attached to the sign of the Cross, which is marked on it, and to the effigy of St. Benedict, whose protection is secured to those who wear it.
"The Holy name of Jesus, the words which our Saviour made use of in driving the devil away, and the allusion to the victories of St. Benedict over this spirit of evil, are all so many holy forms of exorcism which the fiend cannot withstand when they are used against him with faith. Whilst, therefore, recommending the faithful to do their utmost to get their medals blessed, we must remind them that they ought to make use of it and have confidence in the Holy Cross and St. Benedict, even when they have no opportunity of having it blessed by a priest who has the necessary power." (page 103)
It is to be understood by these words that the POWER of the St. Benedict medal is in the sign of the Cross and the effigy of Saint Benedict when used by somebody who has CONFIDENCE in them. The PRIVILEGES are attached to it by the Holy See. How clever and devilish are these Apostate days! Most people don't realize the Saint Benedict medal is efficacious without a blessing. We have been lied to so that our confidence in it's efficacy might be decreased. With decreased confidence the wearer of the medal will have little to no graces. Have CONFIDENCE (faith) when you wear your Saint Benedict medal, blessed or not, and God will bestow many favors on you for your fidelity!
Keep the words of the renowned Dom Gueranger fresh in your minds. . . Now, consider the Miraculous Medal. What have you been told? Chances are you have learned that Our Lady's words to Saint Catherine Laboure were these: "Get a medal struck after this model; all those who wear it, after it is blessed, will receive great graces, especially if they wear it round their neck. Graces will be abundant for those who have confidence'." We see more and more of that particular quote although it isn't what Our Lady said. However, knowing how our Catholic history has been re-written we decided to disprove the "after it is blessed" which, evidently, was cleverly inserted; probably in the last 70 or 80 years. See a pattern? The enemies of the Papacy do the same thing! They insert sentences, between commas, into various quotes from Saints and Popes to cleverly deceive the people. Telling them the Pope is NOT infallible in Faith and Morals unless he says he wants to be infallible! We have seen this time and time again. It shouldn't be new to us. It is the same tactic from the same enemy of Christ.
The medal was first made in the year 1832. Pope Leo XIII gave his full approval (for a feast day, Mass, breviary prayers & as far as we know, a formal blessing in the ritual) in July of 1894. Between 1832 and 1894 we find 62 years of miracles and conversions. And all this taking place without the medal being blessed. Within the first couple of years there were literally millions of Miraculous Medals made and spread throughout the world. All this and no blessing!
In the book Venerable Sister Catherine Laboure, Sister of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, written by the Rev. Edmond Crapez and published in 1920, we are told Our Lady's words were these: "Strike a medal after this model. All who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it suspended around the neck. Graces will be showered on all who wear it with confidence." No mention of it needing to be blessed.
IF it can be proven Our Lady did use the word blessed or blessing the word would mean after it was approved by the Church. NOT a formal blessing from the ritual, with holy water. One version we have seen is the simple word "Indulgenced" added to it like this: ". . . All who wear it indulgenced will receive great graces. . . " This would imply after approval of the Church not that you had to have the medal blessed.
What is the meaning of this push to have everything blessed? A push to almost a cult, superstitious level?!
The blessings bestowed on medals, images and other religious materials are for increasing our devotion and oftentimes are necessary to obtain the PRIVILEGES which the Church attaches to particular devotions. These are excellent. However, an unblessed Rosary could still be used and the one praying can still meditate on the mysteries of the Rosary and his Rosary can still be fruitful. As Dom Guéranger tells us, the power of the medal is attached to the image (for the St. Benedict Medal it is attached to the Cross and Saint Benedict). It follows that the power of the Miraculous medal is attached to the image dictated by Our Lady to Saint Catherine Laboure. The blessing and indulgences were pious additions by Pope Leo XIII and Pope Saint Pius X.
While doing research for this article a website in favor of the false apparitions at Medjugore came up. In March of 2014 Satan, disguising himself as the Virgin Mary, told the "seer" at Medjugore: "that we wear something blessed on us." People are being told they have to wear something blessed! They are deceived to direct their faith in the blessing and not in the power of the medal as bestowed upon it by God. Also, in the current situation in which the whole world is in a state of Apostasy and Schism we are unable to get ANYTHING blessed because we have no priests. Once again, Medjugore mocks Catholicity! Yet if we reverse what was said by Satan in Medjugore we will find the truth. Wear something approved by Heaven around your neck! Wear the Miraculous medal AND the Saint Benedict medal together. Study it's history and WEAR IT WITH CONFIDENCE! It doesn't have to be blessed!
Again, God expects us to have confidence when we wear these medals. If you believe you MUST have your medal blessed then your confidence will diminish. A nasty trick of the Devil! Keep your mind on honoring Our Lady or the Cross of Our Lord andyou will fare well. If you take your medal to be blessed by any of the thousands of "pretend priests" in the New Church (including SSPX, CMRI and others), your confidence will then rest on the false BLESSING and not on OUR LADY OR THE POWER OF THE CROSS of Saint Benedict.
Wear medals! Make use of your unblessed statues for meditation, put scapulars on your children, put up unblessed images!! Make use of these things to lift our hearts and minds to God!
May God soon lead us out of this Apostasy. In the mean time, it is up to us to wear our unblessed medals with confidence in GOD and the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY. Then you will receive the graces Our Lady so much wants to pour into our souls and our lives. With a diminished confidence, you will receive next to nothing save perhaps a vain pride in wearing a medal that has been "blessed".
